Message from Rev Jessi
I received a call on my cell phone on a Friday afternoon - it was a number I did not recognize and the area code was not from Indiana. I was curious, so I answered.
The voice I definately recognized as that of a cheerful fast talking Hands UP Staff person from nearly 10 years ago! Wow. It was exciting to hear her voice and to listen to her story. She is living way out West right now and life has finally settled down for her somewhat. Her story is an incredible journey from drugs, mental illness, prison, abuse, and yet she hangs on and things are finally much better.
So why did she call me - in part to reflect on her time at Fletcher Place and how impactful it was. She will never forget the love, support, encouragement she received from so many people that make up Fletcher Place Ministries. She called to say she was doing ok and that she wanted to make sure we all knew that. Fletcher Place holds a dear part in her heart and she is thankful.
Often times we want to see an immediate success come about because of some outreach we have done, a meal, free clothing, a workshop, or even through help with a job. Yet the successes usually come a long while later sometimes many years later. As my Friday afternoon caller reflected it does make a difference over the long haul.
